In 1941 and 1942, a total of four type D 311 double locomotives were put into service by the Deutsche Wehrmacht. The D 311.01 a/b, also known as âWalliâ, was used on the Crimean peninsula. Along with its sister engine, the D 311.02 a/b âDoraâ, it manoeuvred the largest railroad gun ever built. The locomotives D 311.03 and 04 were intended for use with the âSchwerer Gustav 2â gun, and were probably put into service in West Germany. The fifth and sixth double locomotives were ordered from Krupp, but ultimately could not be built due to war events.
