The Prussian State Railway developed the type P 8 passenger locomotive to meet the increased demands of passenger and express train services. By 1923, German factories had already built over 3,700 versatile triple-coupled locomotives. The P 8 was universally usable and could be found in front of all types of trains. After the turmoil of the two world wars, they were used by almost all European railway administrations.
Poland received 192 locomotives from Prussian stocks after 1918. From the very beginning, the PKP's most essential steam locomotives for local passenger transport were of the Ok1 class. Over the years, the PKP used 429 locomotives of this class. The Ok1-359 was only withdrawn from active service at the beginning of the 1980s. However, it was still serving as a museum locomotive for many years.
