With the commuting of long-distance trains from 1996 onwards, the SBB acquired 60 type IC Bt control cars. The 62-seat vehicle is conceptually based on the well-known Eurocity carriages. It is also equipped with a wheelchair, stroller and bicycle compartment as well as an enclosed toilet system with a bioreactor. The head shape and driver's cab largely correspond to the Re 460 locomotives, thus achieving a homogeneous appearance.
