A set of three "City-Bahn" commuter train cars of the German Federal Railway (DB).

Consisting of one 1st/2nd class car, type ABnrzb 772, and two 2nd class cars, type Bnrzb 778.

In the early 1980s, the German Federal Railway continued to close many lines to save costs. However, in 1983, a new board of directors brought a breath of fresh air: After correcting fundamental errors in the calculations, the DB board decided on a pilot project to improve local transport outside of the S-Bahn (suburban rail) network in major cities. Initially planned for the southern Black Forest, the Cologne – Gummersbach line was chosen: a route with many curves and a parallel motorway. The timetable was changed to an hourly service with push-pull trains hauled by Class 218 locomotives, the track was improved in certain sections, and the carriages were redesigned by the DB Design Center. Externally, the color scheme closely resembled that of the S-Bahn (suburban rail) trains. To attract attention, the first train set was even equipped with a kiosk in 1984.

The Cologne-Gummersbach City Rail project was a great success: numerous other lines followed, then already using rolling stock in the mint green product colors. In 1991, the regular interval timetable was introduced nationwide for local transport as well, and the wave of closures of DB branch lines for passenger service was halted.
