Model: The loco has an mfx+ digital decoder and extensive sound functions. It also has a controlled high-performance motor with a flywheel, mounted in the boiler. Four axles are powered, three of them via coupling rods. Traction tires are fitted. The locomotive and tender are made mostly of metal. The loco has a factory-fitted smoke generator. Headlights and dual red marker lights change over with the direction of travel, work conventionally, and can be controlled digitally. The headlight can be switched to a red marker light. The cab lighting, running gear lighting, and firebox/burner flickering can be controlled separately in digital operation. Maintenance-free warm-white and red LEDs are used for the lighting. Close coupling with a guide mechanism between the loco and tender. The tender has a close coupling with a guide mechanism and an NEM pocket. The buffer heights on the loco and tender conform to NEM specifications. The minimum radius for operation is 360 mm / 14-3/16". Protective piston sleeves and brake hoses are supplied.
Various decorative parts are included for the passenger cars. Total length over the buffers approximately 110 cm / 43-1/4".

The passenger cars were developed in partnership with PIKO Spielwaren GmbH, Sonneberg, Germany.

The prototypical type EW 1 passenger cars are joining the Märklin range for the first time. The type EW 1 cars were developed as successors to the lightweight steel cars of the 1950s. Unlike the older cars, they were open seating cars and were approved for higher speeds (140 km/h / 87 mph).
