One of the legendary TEE multiple units celebrated a spectacular comeback in the summer of 1990: Leased by the Deutsche Reichsbahn as a ten-car set including a reserve power car, it ran as the IC "Max Liebermann" in scheduled service between Hamburg and Berlin from August 1 to September 29, following in the footsteps of an equally legendary predecessor, in the spirit of the impending reunification of the two German states. As early as the 1930s, the DRG had established a high-speed rail connection between these two cities with the "Flying Hamburger".
