Electric locomotive 110 504-8 of Deutsche Bahn.
■ Beige and red livery with DB AG logos
■ Version without apron and buffer fairing, and with individual Klatte-type fans
■ Switchable headlights/taillights with DIP switch
Alongside the Class 103, the Class 112 in beige and red livery was certainly one of the most elegant locomotives in the DB fleet of the 1970s and 80s.
To haul the Rheingold trains and the Rheinpfeil group, which had been converted to locomotive-hauled trainsets, DB put six E 10.1 locomotives (E 10 1239–1244) into service in May 1962 with special Henschel bogies designed for 160 km/h. When the E 10 1265–1270 locomotives, originally intended for these bogies, became available in the autumn of 1962, the E 10 1239–1244 locomotives were converted back to their standard configuration, and the E 10 1265–1270 locomotives took over these premium services, along with the E 10 1308–1312 locomotives delivered shortly thereafter. At the end of the 1960s, the last series of the E 10.12 locomotives, numbered 112 485–504, was delivered with Krupp bogies designed for 160 km/h.
In November 1994, locomotive 114 504 (formerly 112 504) was renumbered 110 504 and was used for local passenger service in the Stuttgart area. Due to its distinctive livery, this locomotive was a popular subject for railway enthusiasts to photograph.
