For testing purposes, a few Class 110 locomotives were fitted with a more powerful, 1200 hp diesel engine in 1972. This was necessary so that the locomotives could also be used in express train service. Other components of the test locomotives were also modified. Due to the positive test results, a total of almost 500 locomotives were converted to the more powerful Class 112 at the Reichsbahn repair shop in Stendal.
The locomotive, which entered service with the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1975 as number 110 831, was rebuilt in 1988. After being decommissioned as 202 831 by Deutsche Bahn in 1998, the locomotive underwent a conversion at Alstom in Stendal. In 2008, it joined the Havelland Railway's fleet.
