With the timetable change in December 2016, ÖBB launched its Europe-wide night train service under the brand name Nightjet. Since December 2017, Nightjet (NJ) has also been a train category. The cars were redesigned using adhesive film. The striking design features a midnight blue color scheme with a suggested starry sky.

The cars previously designed in the Nightjet livery have been refurbished. Instead of the film, they have been painted in the colors of the latest Nightjet design. The previously used starry sky is now a thing of the past.
